    Dalhousie University is the largest university in Atlantic Canada, located in the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia, home to 13 Mi’kmaq First Nations, a deeply rooted African Canadian community, and an increasingly diverse population. The Fountain School of Performing Arts is the only multi-disciplinary performing arts school in the region, offering collaborative learning opportunities in Music, Theatre, and Film Studies programs. FSPA will soon be home to the Joseph Strug Concert Hall, a 300-seat hall designed to support acoustic music performance from solo recitals to chamber orchestra concerts.

    The Fountain School of Performing Arts (FSPA) at Dalhousie University invites applications for a full-time, probationary tenure-track appointment at the rank of Lecturer/Assistant Professor of Violin, Head of Strings, commencing July 1, 2018. Teaching responsibilities will include: one-on-one violin studio instruction (with possible viola instruction as well), regular strings repertoire class and other classes relevant to strings pedagogy, and teaching in a secondary area such as conducting or new music/technology. Research/creative duties will involve developing and maintaining a national/international performing career and commitment to the city’s arts community. Administrative duties will include student recruitment and raising the profile of FSPA as a centre of music excellence and exploration, coordination of the strings area, and committee service within FSPA, the faculty, and the university.

    The successful candidate will have a MMUS, and a DMA or equivalent professional experience. Evidence of effective teaching ability in violin at the post-secondary level is required; experience teaching viola will be considered an asset. Also required is evidence of excellence as a performing artist, and expertise in and an ongoing commitment to either: conducting; or new music and technology; or both.
