Position Overview

The School of Music at the University of Kansas seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Violin expected to begin August 18, 2019. Teach applied violin (undergraduate and graduate) and related courses; maintain a strong violin studio; work individually and collaboratively in recruiting music performance, music education, and music therapy students; supervise/mentor teaching assistants; work cooperatively in support of the University, the School of Music, and the University orchestral program; service on graduate and faculty committees; perform with other faculty as a member of the Kansas Virtuosi; participate actively in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and the University.

Job Description

40% – Teaching: Teach applied violin (undergraduate and graduate) and related courses; work to build and maintain a strong violin studio; work individually and collaboratively in recruiting music performance, music education, and music therapy students

40% – Research: Conduct research/creative activity in area(s) of expertise; maintain a record of creative productivity that indicates continuing growth of national and international visibility

20% – Service: Supervise/mentor teaching assistants; work cooperatively in support of the University, the School of Music, and the University orchestral program; service on graduate and faculty committees; perform with other faculty as a member of the Kansas Virtuosi; participate actively in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and the University.

Required Qualifications

Doctoral degree in music or master’s degree with significant professional performance experience.
Demonstrated ability to successfully teach at the collegiate level.
Artist level performance abilities as a violinist.
