The Department of Art, in the School of the Arts and Architecture, invites applications for a tenure/ tenure-track (assistant /associate) position in painting and drawing. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate art students in the area of painting and drawing, with an emphasis on contemporary studio practices. We are seeking candidates who will actively contribute to the Department and University in creating a community of students, staff, and faculty richly diverse in cultural backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints.

BA or BFA required, MFA preferred. We are seeking a candidate with a distinction as an artist working primarily in painting and drawing who has a strong and active exhibition record or show great potential for active exhibition. The candidate is required to have expertise in the discourses around contemporary art as well as contemporary issues around painting and knowledge of the medium’s history.

The candidate will be expected to mainly teach studio courses (both for beginning and advanced level) in painting and drawing as well as critique and seminar courses. We are actively encouraging assistant professor level applications. The level of appointment will be determined by the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2018.

  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Statement of Teaching – including approach and experience mentoring/advising of under-represented student groups.

  • 20 images of the applicant’s work. Please upload each image separately.
