We invite applications for a tenure-track position teaching Physical Computing commencing in the Fall of 2018 academic semester at the Assistant Professor rank. The Emerging Media Technology Program offers courses to students seeking careers as web and mobile application designers/developers; interaction and experience designers; game designers/developers; hardware and software developers; virtual and augmented reality creators; 3D modelers; sound designer; and interactive media systems and museum installation designers across commercial, social change and art sectors. Current course offerings include: Game Design & Interactive Media; Media Computation; Physical Computing; Music Technology; 3D Modeling & Printing; and Immersive Worlds & Mixed Reality Position responsibilities include: – Teaching introductory and advanced physical computing and 3D fabrication courses, as well as collaborative courses, Technical Production and Interdisciplinary Project, and overseeing culmination projects. Teaching assignments may include day, evening, and Saturday courses. – Engaging in scholarly and/or creative work that achieves professional recognition, and sustaining professional development at the cutting edge of technology to promote the development and integration of emerging technologies into the entertainment technology industry. – Contributing to inter-departmental and interdisciplinary projects, including service on college-wide committees, and departmental assignments including student advisement, assisting with curriculum development and other functions.

A terminal degree (MFA, MPS, or Ph.D. degree) in area(s) of experience. – Five plus years of experience in an emerging media industry and be well versed in physical computing, 3D printing, fabrication, rapid prototyping and embedded systems with a secondary expertise in either game design, interactive and immersive media or music technology. – Proficiency with Arduino, RaspberryPi, Makerbots, Maya, Blender, Processing, Max/MSP/Jitter as well as familiarity with programming languages C and C++ is expected. – Evidence of significant success as a teacher, university level preferred. – Interest in productive scholarship or creative achievement – Willingness to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Preferred Qualifications – Professional experience in hardware development, product design, electrical engineering and/or integrated systems design, with a portfolio of professional commercial and creative work that showcases the candidate’s proficiency with industry standard technologies. – Grant application experience and industry support for educational initiatives – Experience with game engines, immersive media systems, performance systems and media computation . – Emphasis on or experience with practical and industry applications of emerging media technology is especially desirable.
