The University of North Alabama seeks a qualified assistant or associate professor to fill a 9- month tenure-track position in the area of theatrical design and technology to begin in the fall of 2019. The individual will lead the theatre program’s concentration in design and technology. The professor will teach classes associated with the university’s BA in theatre curriculum, specifically the sequence of classes offered in the design and technology concentration. The employee will receive 3 credit hours of release time each semester to participate in theatre productions as a designer (and/or mentor student designers) and serve as the one of the construction shops supervisor. Additional responsibilities include serving as an academic advisor to students enrolled in the design/tech and general theatre concentrations and to engage in advising the student groups. The individual will be expected to collaborate with other theatre faculty and staff members to develop and maintain an engaging and informative theatre curriculum that’s accompanied by a theatre production season designed to simulate professional standards of execution and give students invaluable experiential experiences.
A terminal degree in theatre or a related field, or equivalent professional theatre experience, before the starting date of employment, is required. Preferred candidates will have at least three years of university teaching experience and evidence of professional work as a theatre practitioner. The preferred candidate will have experience teaching in one other area of theatre; such as theatre history, script analysis, arts management, or theory and criticism. The position offers opportunities to serve as a director in the theatre programs production season and possible summer employment options.
