Position Overview

Artist/Teacher of Violin. Visiting Assistant Professor. 1-year non-tenure track appointment. The University of Kansas is especially interested in hiring faculty members who can contribute to the climate of diversity in the School of Music, including a diversity of scholarly approaches, and four key campus-wide strategic initiatives: (1) Sustaining the Planet, Powering the World; (2) Promoting Well-Being, Finding Cures; (3) Building Communities, Expanding Opportunities; and (4) Harnessing Information, Multiplying Knowledge. The successful candidate for the position must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start of the position.

Job Description

40% – Teach applied violin (undergraduate and graduate) and related courses; maintain a strong violin studio; work individually and collaboratively in recruiting music performance, music education, and music therapy students; supervise/mentor teaching assistants.

40% – Maintain a record of creative productivity that indicates continuing growth of national and international visibility.

20% – Work cooperatively in support of the School of Music and the University, including service on graduate and faculty committees; participate actively in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and the University, including performing with other music faculty as a member of the Kansas Virtuosi; engage with appropriate external constituencies impacting the KU string program.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in music with demonstrated teaching and professional performance experience.
Artist level performance abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in music.
Demonstrated ability to successfully teach at the collegiate level.
