Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Industrial Design
The College of Architecture and Design at Lawrence Technological University is seeking outstanding candidates for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Industrial Design. The successful candidate will teach a full-time faculty workload in the BS-ID program. The appointee will be expected to assume a leadership role at the University in mapping new directions in Industrial Design. It is anticipated that the appointment will commence in August 2017.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a terminal degree in Industrial Design or Product Design from an accredited institution. Successful candidates will exhibit the proven ability to develop original creative work which shows a mastery of design as well as the processes and tools required to create it. A strong understanding of the history and critical theory of design is also expected. Critical to the success of this candidate will be the ability to generate and develop extramural funding and relationships with industry partners. The success of the program will be the candidate’s ability to form collaborations and/or curricular partnerships with other intra- and extra-College¬†academic units, the ability to work collegially and collaboratively with faculty and staff, and a history of practice-based innovation in the area of design.

Applicants must have current experience with as many of the following as possible: knowledge of industry standard 2D and 3D modeling, working knowledge of production techniques (analog, CNC, robotic), advanced knowledge of digital and physical prototyping, forward thinking approach to research methods, forward thinking approaches to studio based design pedagogy. Candidates should possess strong communication skills and a willingness to become actively involved in the functioning of the department including academic advisement, curriculum development, assessment and recruitment are essential.

Candidates must have a clear research agenda supported by a strong record of professional accomplishment through intellectually rigorous and peer-reviewed dissemination of research, scholarship or creative work. Candidates should be able to demonstrate: a combination of practice-based studio and lecture-based teaching experience at the college level, and the ability to work with, advise, and promote a diverse student body.

College of Architecture and Design
The College of Architecture and Design (CoAD) offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a range of design related disciplines with emphasis on professional practice and technological innovation. With the Detroit Center for Design and Technology (DCDT), the College leverages its location through industry sponsored projects, research collaborations, and community outreach. The College cultivates a broader multidisciplinary discussion within its university which presents design as having a central role.
