Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

We have an opportunity for a dedicated and motivated academic to contribute to teaching courses in the area of Design in the Bachelor of Design (Interface) and the Bachelor of Design (Media) degrees, taught at the Joint Institute by the Design Group, the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences.

The Bachelor of Design degrees combine highly creative design and visual communication courses with computer programming courses. The degrees have been created through a unique partnership in consultation with the design industry to meet the increasing demand for experts in design who can fluently understand the digital world.

Current salary range for Professional Teaching Fellows will be in the range of CNY320,000 to CNY455,000 per year dependent on qualifications, skills and experience. For more information on the role please see the position description here.

Ko wai koe? - Who are you?

Successful candidates will hold a relevant Master's degree with PhD preferred, you will have demonstrated experience teaching to large and small groups of students and knowledge of the design discipline, with a desirable emphasis upon design principles, typography, design history or design methods and a demonstrated interest in their application to digital technologies. Experience working in an international organisation is essential. Knowledge of Chinese culture, experience of teaching across cultures and the ability to work with students for whom English is not their first language are all important requirements.

We are proud of our Joint Institute at Zhejiang University City College which is designated as an Institute authorised to deliver NZ (University of Waikato) and Chinese (Ministry of Education) accredited degrees. Currently the Institute offers undergraduate degrees in Media, Design and Finance. All teaching is conducted in English. Into its fifth year of operation, the Institute in Hangzhou has 16 staff and an enrolment of 1,000 students.

A competitive benefits package is on offer for the appointee (and partner and dependent children where relevant) which includes either on campus accommodation or a contribution towards off campus rented accommodation, contributions towards relocation and international school and pre-school tuition fees, payment for work visa, medical insurance costs and one return economy airfare per annum to return to home country if border restrictions allow.

The appointment will be a foreign expert, and employment compliant with the regulations of the provincial government. These regulations stipulate who is eligible for legal employment as a foreign expert with regard to obtaining work permits and visas.
