The School of Creative and Performing Arts invites applications for a full-time visiting artist position in Costume Design. This is a non-tenure track one-year appointment, with possibilities of renewal for up to three consecutive years. All performing arts faculty are practicing artists and teach within the context of the apprentice learning model. The position includes both academic and design responsibilities in a school offering B.F.A. Degrees in Dance, Theatre Arts: Emphases in Acting, Design and Theatre for Young Audiences, Management, Vocal Arts, Musical Theatre and Digital Media/Film, with a focused BFA in Costume Design. All of these degrees are offered within a liberal arts environment.

Responsibilities:
1. Teach/design for the equivalent of 12 credit hours per semester in the area of costume design;
2. Responsible for the oversight of the costume shop operation (maintenance and organization), as well as oversight of all costume shop staff;
3. Responsible for the oversight and/or costume design of multiple productions in the performing arts season which includes theatre, dance and vocal performances,
4. Mentor and supervise student costume designers in the BFA program;
5. Support guest costume designers as assigned;
6. Collaborate with directors and other designers;
7. Work daily with students in all areas of costume production. Supervise students in proper and safe ways of working: encourage and maintain professional standards;
8. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • MFA in Costume Design
  • Demonstrated and proven years of professional experience
  • Successful teaching at the University/College level
  • Evidence of communication and collaboration skills, demonstrated commitment to working with a multicultural population and awareness of issues effecting women and minorities
  • Evidence of successful professional design work.
