The Department of Theatre, Dance, and Performance Studies at Tufts University is seeking a part-time lecturer to teach an introductory-level course in Scenic Fabrication in the fall semester 2025. The content of the course includes an introduction to and overview of tools, materials, techniques and methods of mounting a theatrical production. The emphasis is on scenery construction including basic carpentry, painting, and rigging techniques. The class meets Fridays from 9:00am to 12:00pm in the Tufts University Scene Shop; students are also required to complete supervised lab hours that are arranged on an individual basis.

Scenic Fabrication Course Description: An exploration of the tools, materials, and techniques for fabricating scenery for the entertainment industry. Topics covered include safely working in a shop environment, carpentry, rigging techniques, drafting, collaboration, and problem-solving.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold an MFA in Technical Production or Theatre Technology (preferred) or have equivalent professional experience, and have some teaching experience at the college level.
