Associate or Full Professor to serve as Director, School of Music.
Syracuse University invites applications for the position of Director of the Setnor School of Music. We are seeking a bold and collaborative leader who will embrace Setnor’s rich history while overseeing the revitalization of our traditional offerings and fostering the emerging excellence of our newer degree programs and creative initiatives. The school is interested in candidates who are committed to excellence and who have the communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members. The Director will be responsible for the School’s creative, academic, and strategic leadership and will provide public advocacy for the School at the university, regional, and national levels.
The Setnor School of Music is a NASM accredited professional school of music housed within a student-focused global private research university and offering BA, BM, BS, MA, MM, and MS degrees, as well as four music minors. Options for the study of both classical and jazz/commercial music exist at the major and minor level. Additionally, the School offers collaborative degree associations with Syracuse University’s School of Education, S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and Whitman School of Management.
The ideal candidate will be a vibrant, articulate, and personable leader who will oversee and work with an enrollment of approximately 300 music majors and minors, 70 full- and part-time faculty, as well as an administrative team that includes an Assistant Director for Academic Affairs, an Assistant Director for Operations, and a Budget Administrator.
DMA/PhD, or equivalent current experience in a professional music field at the highest level of accomplishment is required.
This is a 9-month academic appointment with a 3-month administrative stipend beginning on July 1, 2019 with appointment at Associate or Full Professor level.
