The University of Pittsburgh invites applicants for the MFA Performance Pedagogy program for enrollment for Fall 2018. MFA candidates will teach a range of performance classes from foundational acting to special topics for which they receive a highly competitive financial assistantship that includes tuition, stipend and health benefits.

The MFA in Performance Pedagogy is a unique full-time two-year program designed to equip working, professional actors with the pedagogical tools for teaching performance at the college and university level. The program utilizes the experience of its students as a foundation for developing solid teaching skills, offering a dynamic synthesis of teaching, practice, and scholarship. Each student receives mentorship by experienced teachers, and explores actor training methods ranging from Stanislvaski-based (particularly Meisner) to classical, Shakespeare, movement, ensemble-based and other areas of performance. MFA candidates will also complement teaching and classroom work with practical experiences on main-stage and lab season productions. The program has a successful record of career placement with alumni working in all levels of academia. Students are given specific feedback on job materials in order to be competitive in the academic market.

The University of Pittsburgh is a world-class research institution and the faculty in the Department of Theatre Arts is recognized nationally and internationally for their contribution to the field. Successful applicants will be seasoned professional actors with at least five years of professional experience, preferably with some teaching or coaching, and willing to make a full commitment in residence in Pittsburgh.
