Assistant Professor of Dance
The department of Dance at Marymount Manhattan College is recruiting a tenure-track faculty member in Dance with teaching expertise in Anatomy and Somatic Practices, pending final budget approval. The primary instructional responsibilities of the successful candidate will be to teach Anatomy I & II, Somatic Practices and Intro to Movement Analysis and Notation, and to develop courses for the college’s Upper Level Gen Ed in the area of Natural Science Perspectives. Additionally, successful candidates will be fully prepared to teach courses in the Medical Science curriculum of the Biology department: Anatomy, Human Physiology and/or Animal Physiology. A Ph.D in Physical Therapy, Kinesiology, Motor Development, Movement Science and Exercise Physiology, or medical training are highly desirable. Ph.D’s in Biology or Neuroscience or other closely related fields are also desirable. The ideal candidate will establish ongoing internship opportunities for the BA Dance: Body, Science & Motion (BS&M) undergraduate students, coordinate the BS&M concentration with the Science department, and contribute to the development of the BS&M Dance concentration.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan courses and prepare syllabi for the Body, Science & Motion BA concentration in Dance
  • Coordinate with the Science department the schedule and advisement of students in the Body Science and Motion concentration
  • Keep regular office hours for students, provide tutoring assistance as needed, and perform student advising duties
  • Keep active in academic field of specialization through professional development, scholarly research, publishing, and professional activities
  • Serve on college and university committees and engage in university and community service including development of outreach activities
  • Mentor and supervise undergraduate students in scholarly research projects and internship opportunities
  • Participate in college and university programs to recruit and retain students
  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in pertinent field
  • Minimum two years of college level teaching experience
  • Expertise in dance/movement practices and career involvement with the dance field on a professional level
  • Expertise and professional experience in dance performance practices
  • Demonstrated research and publication record
  • Potential for or past success securing external grants/research funding
  • Ability to teach courses in the biomedical sciences, specifically anatomy, human and animal physiology
