Ball State University seeks an individual with innovative ideas about the teaching and practice of dance technique, as well as a commitment to interdisciplinary inquiry and entrepreneurial learning practices within the art of dance. This one-year contract faculty position is available August, 2017.
Major responsibilities: The successful candidate will teach a variety of performance and technique courses within a growing BFA dance curriculum. The individual will teach all levels of ballet and modern technique. In addition, the ideal candidate will have expertise and the ability to teach in at least two additional areas of specialization, which may include improvisation, introduction to dance, choreography, or pedagogy. The successful candidate will also have the ability to collaborate on the vision, design, and management of the Dance program, mentor student creativity and research, and perform departmental and advisory duties as assigned. All faculty in the College of Fine Arts are expected to be quality teachers, productive scholars, or as appropriate to the position, creative artists, and to engage in public service activities.
Minimum qualifications: Master’s degree in Dance from an accredited college or university, by August 1, 2017, ability to teach ballet and modern dance technique, excellent communication and organizational skills, ability to work collaboratively and collegially within a liberal arts setting.
Preferred qualifications: M.F.A. in Dance, completed by August 1, 2017, one year of teaching experience at the university/college level with substantial professional experience, and expertise and ability to teach introduction to dance classes focused on online delivery. The department is a BFA/BA/BS undergraduate-only program with 375 theatre majors, 60 dance majors, and 35 full-time faculty/staff. The Department maintains an active role in the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) and the Kennedy Center American College Dance Festival (KCACDF). Theatre and Dance programs are NAST/NASD accredited.
