The Theatre and Dance Department at Colorado College invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Dance Studies at the Assistant Professor level beginning in August, 2018. Qualified candidates will focus their teaching and scholarship on transnational approaches to dance, which may include theories of ethnic diasporas, cultural hybridity, postcolonialism, critical race theory, indigenous studies, or other areas of study situated in a global context. In keeping with the department’s dual commitment to critical thinking and creative inquiry, the ideal candidate will have a practical background as a dancer with experience integrating creative work into her or his pedagogy and research. Teaching responsibilities will include core courses for the dance major that address historical and cultural perspectives on dance history, critical seminars on interdisciplinary topics and dance studio courses that draw on particular fields of specialization. Applicants must possess a Ph.D. in Dance Studies, Performance Studies, or a related field and preference will be given to candidates who have additional experience as a dance practitioner. An international profile and choreographic experience are desirable qualifications.
