The Department of Design at Brigham Young University is seeking to fill a One Year Appointment (with the possibility of extension for up to three years) of a full-time professional faculty member in Photography beginning Fall Semester 2017. While an MFA in Photography is preferred; non-MFA candidates may be considered depending on their qualifications and professional experience. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and professional achievement in the field of Photography. The candidate should have an ability to teach formal, conceptual, and professional issues and possess a broad knowledge of historical and contemporary aspects of photography as art and theory. They should possess a solid background in contemporary and traditional photographic practices and technique including black and white film-base and darkroom printing, digital printing, alternative processes, large format and studio development. The candidate should have an active exhibition record and studio practice that complements the existing faculty, preferably with an expertise and commitment to an expanded definition of photography as well as experience with digital video. A record of peer reviewed publication or exhibitions is desirable. Successful candidates should possess an interest in interdisciplinary work and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with colleagues. Candidates for the position should clearly demonstrate distinguished scholarship and/or professional activity, grant-funded research, and student mentorship, which include commitment to community service and student mentoring.

The candidate will be expected to teach courses at all levels of the program, which include courses in photography, video and lighting. Teaching responsibilities shall include courses in but not limited to digital imaging, analog photography, studio photography, video production, with DSLR cameras, editorial photography and professional business practices. Candidates are required to teach core curriculum and major courses in photography; to serve as advisor and mentor to all photography majors, minors, and advanced photography students, participate in undergraduate reviews and critiques. Help with management of the photography facilities and equipment, overseeing TA’s, budgets, and curriculum as well as other department service and to manage daily activities in the digital and photography labs.
