Job Summary:
The Department of Art + Architecture at the University of San Francisco invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin Fall 2026.

This position in the Architecture program within the Department of Art + Architecture seeks candidates with a background and/or expertise in any of the following areas: architectural design, history and theory of architecture, building technology and construction, community outreach. Candidates may also have experience with professional practice as well as project management. Experience in city and regional planning and landscape architecture is also welcome.

Full Job Description:

This position in the Architecture program within the Department of Art + Architecture seeks candidates with a background and/or expertise in any of the following areas: architectural design, history and theory of architecture, building technology and construction, community outreach. Candidates may also have experience with professional practice as well as project management. Experience in city and regional planning and landscape architecture is also welcome.

Candidates should be able to teach undergraduate architectural design courses at all levels, from introductory to advanced. Teaching may include courses in architectural history, architectural theory, materials and methods, digital design, community engaged learning, and/or research theses. Ideal candidates should be able to connect architectural design practice to issues of political, environmental, and community justice.

Job Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be expected to teach 2-3 courses a semester, depending on unit count (2- and 4-unit courses, to a total of 18 units per academic year). In addition to teaching and course development, successful candidates will serve as an advisor to Architecture majors and minors, engage in service to the department and college, and maintain an active research program that engages students when possible.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. or terminal degree in architecture or related field (city planning, landscape architecture, urban design). Experience of architectural design practice, or practice in related fields is also welcomed. This position requires a commitment to excellence in teaching within a culturally diverse environment. In addition, a strong record of teaching at the university level, evidence of scholarship, and an understanding of and commitment to supporting the mission of the University of San Francisco are required.

  • a research statement
  • evidence of teaching ability (e.g., sample syllabi, teaching evaluations)
  • three letters of recommendation (requested upon submission of application).
  • a portfolio of the candidate's design work (letter size pdf)
