The San Francisco Conservatory of Music invites nominations and applications for the position of Provost and Dean, which will begin on July 1, 2019. As the Chief Academic Officer, the Provost and Dean will serve an institution committed to providing a superlative education by offering an experience dedicated to the artistic, intellectual, professional and individual transformation of each student through the study of music at the highest level. The Provost and Dean will work with the President and SFCM's senior leadership to execute an ambitious strategic plan and oversee all aspects of the academic program.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Provides vision, leadership and management in coordination with the President for all aspects of the academic program.
Ensures SFCM's compliance with standards of the WASC Senior College and University Commission and manages all processes associated with accreditation.
Works closely with the Director of Admissions to attract students of exceptional quality.
Oversees the work of senior collegiate academic staff, which currently includes the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Professional Development, Executive Director of New Music and Technology, Executive Director of Roots Jazz and American Music and faculty department chairs.
Collaborates with the Faculty Executive Committee (FEC) and Academic Affairs Committee (AAC) in the development of a curriculum and culture in keeping with our mission and Strategic Plan.
Oversees the Associate Dean and Executive Director of the Pre-College and Adult Extension Divisions and supports SFCM's mission to provide the highest quality music education to children (K through 12) and members of the community.
Oversees the work of the Director of Production and Concert Operations and Manager of Ensemble Operations to ensure that SFCM productions and ensembles to ensure alignment with the curriculum and performances of the highest caliber.
Oversees faculty recruitment and mentorship.
Oversees all aspects of assessment and planning regarding student outcomes and academic performance.
Oversees budgetary planning for and management of academic programs and reviews budgets submitted by department chairs.
