About the FIU Department of Theater
FIU Theatre guides students through the discovery of their unique artistic visions and helps them develop the skills to make them a reality. Accredited by NAST, the department offers both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees in acting, and design/production. Our 127 majors have opportunities to explore their craft in our Main Stage Theater, Black Box, and Experimental Theatre as part of our 4 show production season and many student projects.
The Department of Theatre within The College of Communication, Architecture + The Arts seeks a nine-month tenure earning Assistant Professor of Costume Design to commence in August 2019. Teaching responsibilities include, but are not limited to classes in the area of costume design, drawing and rendering, costume technology, and makeup design. Production and administrative duties include designing within the department season, mentorship and supervision of student designers, instruction of costume shop lab students, and a role in the continued development of the theatre department and the undergraduate design/production program.
Qualifications for the position include the MFA or appropriate terminal degree, evidence of effective teaching, and a record of scholarship and professional experience. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching, training and working in a diverse university environment; demonstrated artistic ability at both professional and academic levels; active professional creative work and research; an ability to work with tight deadlines; and strong interpersonal communication and collaboration skills.
