The Theater & Performance Studies Program (TPST) in the Department of Performing Arts at Georgetown University is accepting applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor with expertise in Acting and a deep commitment to student mentoring. This three-year (renewable) non-tenure line appointment will begin August 2019, with full benefits. We seek candidates with an M.F.A. or Ph.D. who bring significant teaching experience at the college level who can fully participate in the life of the Georgetown community. Our active liberal arts program fosters the integration of creative and critical work, artistic excellence, and performance as a mode of social engagement. Candidates should bring expertise to teach undergraduate studio courses in Acting and Scene Study, and Physical Theater and/or Voice, plus single special topic classes (whether studios, seminars or lectures) that play to the candidate’s expertise in areas such as Theater for Social Change, Shakespeare, Hip Hop Theater, Ensemble, Culturally-Responsive Performance, Directing, and/or Solo Performance. We prioritize candidates who engage diversity, whether in global or local registers, as well as artist-scholars and teaching artists with crossover areas of creative expertise. The multi-year contract with full benefits includes a 3/3 equivalent teaching load plus participation in departmental service and governance. Depending on the candidate’s strengths, annual loads assigned by the department may include advisement of Georgetown’s robust co-curricular student theater, participation in our innovative TPST home season in the Davis Performing Arts Center and/or contributions for our community partnerships.
