The Design Lab at UC San Diego is a new initiative, established by the chancellor to become a major international center for human-centered design.

A multidisciplinary hiring committee will review and recommend candidates. We welcome applications in all areas related to the Design Lab mission. Appointments will be made in an academic department in divisions/units including but are not limited to: the Division of Arts and Humanities, the Jacobs School of Engineering, the Division of Social Sciences, and the Rady School of Management. Joint appointments can be considered where appropriate. The hiring emphasis is at the Assistant level; candidates at the Associate level with an exceptional track record will also be considered.

The preferred candidate will: have published one or more conference and/or journal articles in a highly-regarded peer-reviewed venue; be prepared to supervise and teach graduate and undergraduate students in design-related courses; demonstrate the highest standards of scholarship and professional activity; and contribute to a campus climate that supports equity, inclusion, and diversity. An interdisciplinary perspective and experience with multiple methodologies is highly valued. Candidates should submit, via online application to https://apol-recruit.ucsd.edu/apply/JPF01268 (a) a short cover letter describing background and interests, (b) vita, (c) research statement, (d) teaching statement, (e) reprints of up to four representative publications, (f) personal statement summarizing their contributions (or potential contributions) to diversity and leadership (http://facultyequity.ucsd.edu/Faculty-Applicant-C2D-info.asp), and (g) a minimum of three letters of reference, (provide name, title, address and email).

Applicants for the Associate Professor (with tenure) must have a terminal degree--such as a PhD, equivalent doctoral degree, or MFA--in their area of expertise, and--at minimum--4 years of academic teaching experience.
