The Department of Performing Arts in the College of Arts & Sciences at Georgetown University seeks applicants for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Public Speaking. This three-year (renewable) non-tenure line appointment will begin August 2019, with full benefits.

The successful candidate will teach multiple sections of the Introduction to Public Speaking Course. The position has a 3-3 teaching load and a service component, which may include administration. Applicants should also be able to teach courses in areas such as Public Relations and Rhetorical and Communication theory, with further opportunities for topics in the candidate’s areas of interest.

We welcome expertise across a range of contemporary and critical approaches to public speech. These might include (but are not limited to) cultural diversity and public speech; the intersection of theatrical performance and public performance of the self; and the creative use of new media platforms (such as TedX talks and podcasts) for contemporary communication and the building of community.

The faculty especially encourage candidates whose approach reflects the liberal arts mission of the department and necessity of cultivating communication skills in diverse and global contexts. We seek an individual with the experience and capacity to teach undergraduate students drawn from all four of Georgetown’s undergraduate colleges.

A Master’s degree in Communication or related field is required, with experience in college-level teaching within a diverse student community.
