Founded in 1890, the University of Tasmania is ranked in the top two percent of universities worldwide and in the top ten research universities in Australia. The University has a strong and distinctive Tasmanian identity, which underpins teaching and research that is international in scope, vision and standards.

The University of Tasmania is at a critical point, experiencing one of the fastest growth periods in its history. The Discipline of Architecture & Design is one of three disciplines in the School of Technology, Environments & Design, in the College of Sciences & Engineering. The School has articulated a clear purpose to be a design, technology and science enterprise of global reach and Tasmanian relevance, underpinned by design and technological innovation, and integrating social and physical sciences. It is a vibrant centre for world-class research, learning and teaching on the interactions between humans and the natural, built and digital environments.

The appointee will undertake impactful, collaborative research of national standing; coordinate and deliver high-quality teaching; provide significant contributions to curriculum development and unit and course coordination; acquire external funding to support research and/or learning and teaching activities; and effectively supervise PhD candidates.

In this role you will:
  • Undertake original research of national and, increasingly, of international significance in the field of architecture and/or design. Secure competitive external funding. Produce high-quality scholarly publications and, if relevant, other high-quality architecture and design-related Non-Traditional Research Outputs (NTRO’s) across a range of media, including buildings and designs, events and exhibitions.
  • Undertake scholarly undergraduate and postgraduate coursework teaching of an exemplary quality in architecture and design. Consult with students and provide timely feedback.
  • Champion the Discipline of Architecture & Design to broaden opportunities for collaborative partnerships across the University and with the wider community.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of productive and effective links inside the University and externally with the architecture and design professions, industry and community, including involvement in professional activities, liaising with industry and representative bodies, participating in consultancy projects and contributing to the formulation of policy and practice in architecture and design.

Applicants will hold a PhD in a field relevant to architecture and design, together with a strong record in research that has achieved national recognition and makes notable contributions to architecture and/or design. In addition, you will have experience and demonstrated achievement in high-quality, University-level learning and teaching in architecture and design as well as success in securing competitive external funding to support research and/or learning and teaching activities.

This role is located in Launceston and is a full-time, ongoing appointment at Academic Level B or Academic Level C.
Appointment to this role at Academic Level B will have a total remuneration package of up to $127,369 comprising base salary within the range of $92,326 – $108,862 plus 17% superannuation.
Appointment to this role at Academic Level C will have a total remuneration package of up to $150,401 comprising base salary within the range of $112,184 – $128,548 plus 17% superannuation.
