The Department of Music at the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, invites applications for an
Assistant Professor (tenure-track) appointment in music composition. The position is expected to begin in late August 2024. The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. or D.M.A. in composition by the time of appointment and be a highly active composer with an impressive record of creative accomplishment in the field. They would be expected to work directly with the department’s other faculty composers as well as the director of the
Center for 21st Century Music in support of the creative activities of the composition area. The Department of Music will begin its review of applications on October 16, 2023.
The position involves a 2+2 teaching load comprising a mix of graduate composition studio lessons, graduate seminars in composition and related courses in areas of interest to the candidate; and undergraduate teaching of majors and non-majors in accordance with the Department’s curricular requirements in composition, music history, music theory, performance and the University’s General Education course offerings. The candidate would be expected to advise and mentor undergraduate composition students in addition to their work with the department’s graduate students.
