Work Schedule

  • Full-time equivalent beginning in Fall 2017

Job Responsibilities
Teaching core and elective Theater courses as assigned by the Department Chair. Direct, coach movement for and/or choreograph departmental productions as assigned.

Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver instruction, develop curriculum and assess student learning
  • Contribute to a diverse, inclusive learning environment
  • Participate in department and College service
  • Work well and collaboratively with a culturally diverse faculty, staff and student body
  • Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS, Canvas) and/or participate in training and development

Contribute to college governance and service:

  • Theater department meetings
  • Student mentorship and advising
  • Mentorship of adjunct faculty members in the Physical Technique curriculum
  • Assessment of student progress by year as a collaborating member of each year’s faculty
  • College and department committees and service
  • Theater department recruitment & retention


  • Maintain professional career
  • Understand instructional technology, and as needed, participate in training and development
  • Engage in personal research, such as creative practice, scholarship, research or scholarship of teaching
  • Foster a positive, caring, equitable learning environment where difference and pluralism are valued and all students have opportunities to be successful learners
  • Other duties as negotiated with Department Chair

Minimum Qualifications

  • BFA in Theater or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in two or more of the following areas at professional and/or undergraduate level: - Clown - Lecoq Technique - Neutral and character mask - Meyerhold’s Biomechanics - Suzuki Technique - Stage Combat (SAFD Certified)
  • Other areas of interest: - Commedia dell’arte mask and performance - Theatrical composition (including but not limited to Viewpoints Technique) - Heightened Acting Styles - Physical techniques for characterization and working with heightened text - Knockabout (slips, falls and comedic action) - Devising and physical creation
  • Evidence of career success as a theater artist
  • Demonstrated potential to develop national standing within the profession
  • Effective collaborative, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered educational experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse student body, faculty and staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • MFA in Theater with emphasis in Acting or Physical Technique
  • Experience with collaborative curriculum development and collaborative teaching
  • Administrative experience within the academic context
  • Familiarity with the academic structure of higher education
