Department Head – Theatre and Dance

Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a strong administrator to lead the Department of Theatre and Dance at Missouri State University. The ideal candidate is a collaborative facilitator who can navigate the unique needs of a diverse faculty, staff, and student body, while aiming to bring consensus amongst departments. The Department Head should be a persuasive negotiator and exceptional communicator.
The Department Head provides active leadership in recruitment and retention, budget management, alumni relations, curriculum development, hiring and evaluation of faculty and staff, leading diversity efforts, and serving as producer for Tent Theatre. The Department Head also provides leadership to all areas of the department, including BA, BS, BFA, and BSE programs.
Position is located in Springfield, Missouri. Start date is July 1, 2018.
Required Qualifications:
- Earned terminal degree (doctorate or 60-hour MFA) in theatre or dance
- Eligible to be tenured as a Full professor in the department of Theatre and Dance
- Significant comprehensive leadership experience, including responsibility for recruitment, evaluation of personnel, guiding curriculum development, and budgeting
- Demonstrated support of initiatives in arts education in theater and dance professions
- Demonstrated commitment to providing a diverse and collegial environment
- Success in teaching, research, and service and have excellent communication skills
- Experience with NAST, NASM, NASD accreditation
The Department of Theatre and Dance
Missouri State's Department of Theatre and Dance is one of fewer than 200 programs to have attained accreditation by the National Association of Schools of Theatre. This accreditation is a sign of excellence in both performance and instruction. The musical theatre program holds an additional accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Music.
Missouri State’s Theatre & Dance students receive extensive professional training along with a solid academic foundation. Students Gain experience through main-stage, community and regional theatre productions, while earning professional credits through their Equity Membership Candidate Program and benefiting from the professional connections cultivated by faculty and alumni networks. The Department of Theatre and Dance is one of seven departments in the College of Arts and Letters.
