Faculty - Assistant Professor - Drawing Foundations


Position Category: Faculty - Tenure Track (FT)

Summary:

Utah Valley University Department of Art and Design seeks a passionate and skillful colleague to join a young and expanding Art and Design program. The position is for a full time tenure track assistant professor.
The successful candidate teaches observational drawing courses in the foundations program, mentors, and motivates students to excel in drawing and encourage students in career paths. Oversees the syllabus for courses, training of adjuncts and assessment of Drawing I and Drawing for Non Majors courses.

Required Qualifications:

An earned MFA degree in any drawing, painting, illustration, printmaking or a related discipline from an accredited institution required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of drawing processes throughout the history of art and in current practice.
  • Knowledge and skill in visualization and observational drawing instruction, theory, methods, strategies and techniques.
  • Knowledge in student management, motivation and evaluation techniques.
  • Skills in teaching and drawing observationally.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Skills in interpersonal relationships, problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Ability to relate well with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to evaluate drawings effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply multimedia hardware/software in classroom teaching.

Physical Requirements:

May be required to teach online, blended, distance education, off-campus or evening courses.
