Taubman College is conducting an open rank search for two or more faculty at the rank of assistant, associate, or full professor, in either the tenure or practice track, to advance innovative design practices in the field and within our curricula. Tenure-track appointments are typically full-time and encompass a robust research/creative practice agenda along with a commitment to teaching and service to the college, university, and profession. Practice track appointments are often part-time to facilitate an individual’s continued engagement in their professional expertise which they bring to their classroom instruction to the benefit of our students and academic community.
Taubman College is engaged in a multi-year project of capacity-building and curricular transformation to cultivate emerging modes of design and practice. Faculty research in areas such as emerging urbanism, building sector innovation, and postdigital design infuses leading-edge professional and research degrees. Our robust and lively design culture has particular depth in digital and postdigital practices ranging from theory and design through fabrication and material experimentation. Through a focus on academic innovation, we are improving architectural teaching and learning while expanding access to the field.
We seek colleagues conducting leading-edge creative practice and research that situates design in relation to one of the following focus areas:
Urbanism, with the capacity to anchor research and teaching in urban design while bridging to architecture, planning, and related fields.
Technology, encompassing topics such as environmental systems, computation and data, artificial intelligence and machine learning, gaming, or mixed reality and other emerging media.
Practice innovation relating to alternative models for design, practice, community engagement, and/or building delivery.
We seek faculty ready to transform design and education by generating impactful design research and creative work, and by teaching BS and/or M.Arch design studios as well as lecture, seminar, and/or workshop courses in one or more of our degree offerings, which also include the MS, MUD, and PhD. We are particularly interested in candidates who can engage productively both our core disciplines of architecture, planning, and urban design and one or more related fields such as engineering, information, real estate, finance, ecology, and urban humanities.
The successful candidate should possess a graduate professional and/or doctoral degree in architecture or a closely related field and the promise or record of high achievement in design research or practice.
