Position Summary:

The Utah State University Music Department invites applications for a full-time, academic year (9 months) Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Music as Master Teacher of Piano and Piano Pedagogy. This is a full-time tenure-track or tenured position.

Starting Date: August 1, 2019


Primary responsibilities include working with the head of the Department of Music, Piano Program faculty colleagues, and dean of the Caine College of the Arts to define and implement a vision for the piano program at Utah State University and teaching individual piano instruction, piano literature, and piano pedagogy classes. It is expected that the successful candidate will maintain an active regional and national performance and outreach (i.e. master-class/workshop/adjudication) schedule that will recruit excellent pianists to the school.

Additional duties may include teaching other courses reflecting the background/training/education of the individual and the needs of the department.

Dept/College Highlights:

Administered by the Caine College of the Arts, the Music Department has 30 full-time and 38 part-time faculty members serving approximately 250 music majors. Located in the Chase Fine Arts Center, departmental facilities include teaching/rehearsal space; faculty offices; the 1,700-seat newly remodeled Daines Concert Hall; and, the award-winning 400-seat Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall dedicated in January of 2006. The Department offers the Bachelor of Music in Performance, the Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy, the Bachelor of Music Education, a Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy, a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Master of Music in Piano Performance & Pedagogy, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting, a Master of Music in Voice Performance, and a Master of Music in Guitar Performance.
