Work Schedule
​* Full-time equivalent beginning Fall 2017

Job Responsibilities
Teaching core and elective Theater courses as assigned by the Department Chair.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching and coaching musical theater music and vocal performance in scene study, solo, and audition techniques
  • Teaching music theory and musical theater analysis, keyboard techniques, and sight singing for the actor/singer
  • Collaborating with acting faculty to coach student performers in musical theater capstone projects
  • Oversight of private singing lessons including hiring, assigning and scheduling teachers
  • Mentoring students for professional internships
  • Recruitment of prospective students in local and national audition
  • May include musical directing for departmental productions
  • Deliver instruction, develop curriculum and assess student learning
  • Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS, Canvas) and/or participate in training and development

Contribute to college governance and service:

  • Theater department meetings
  • Student mentorship and advising
  • Mentorship of adjunct faculty members in the Musical Theater curriculum
  • Collaborate with Department Producer on assigning, scheduling and supervising all faculty of private singing instruction
  • Assessment of student progress by year as a collaborating member of each year’s faculty
  • College and department committees and service
  • Theater department recruitment & retention

Research/Practice:

  • Maintain professional career
  • Understand instructional technology, and as needed, participate in training and development
  • Engage in personal research, such as creative practice, scholarship, research or scholarship of teaching
  • Foster a positive, caring, equitable learning environment where difference and pluralism are valued and all students have opportunities to be successful learners
  • Other duties as negotiated with Department Chair

Minimum Qualifications

  • BFA in Musical Theater or equivalent professional experience
  • Demonstrated experience teaching in two or more of the following areas at a professional and/or undergraduate level:
  • Musical theater singing techniques
  • Music theory
  • Ensemble singing and harmony
  • Other areas of interest: - Music direction - Arranging - Composition and songwriting
  • Evidence of career success as a musical theater artist
  • A thorough knowledge of musical theater history and repertoire including both traditional and contemporary works, especially those by creators from underrepresented communities in the U.S.
  • Keyboard and sight-reading skills appropriate to the level of the coursework
  • Demonstrated potential to develop national standing within the profession
  • Effective collaborative, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to student-centered educational experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely and effectively with a diverse student body, faculty and staff

Preferred Qualifications

  • MFA in Musical Theater
  • Experience with collaborative curriculum development and collaborative teaching
  • Administrative experience within the academic context
  • Familiarity with the academic structure of higher education
