    Summary Description:
    Colorado College's Theatre and Dance Department invites applications for a full-time Costume Designer/Costume Shop Supervisor to collaborate with the department's designers, directors, choreographers, and production staff for our department's productions and to mentor students in costume design. Primary responsibilities include designing costumes for three productions annually, teaching a course in costume design or a related topic and the daily operation, safety, and organization of the costume shop. The Theatre and Dance Department values inclusive, equitable and collaborative teaching, student-centered learning, and a production process in which everyone respects and values the abilities and creativity of all involved. Preferred qualifications: Master of Fine Arts degree in Costume Design or related field or a minimum three years of tested experience.

    Anticipated Salary Range: $55,000 to $65,000 per year

    Responsibilities:



    • Design costumes for the departments three mainstage productions - two in theatre, one in dance.

    • Collaborate with departmental faculty and technical team during the mainstage design and production phases including attendance at all production meetings, technical and dress rehearsals, and the supervision of costume elements.

    • Teach one block course a year in costume design or a related topics course.

    • Mentor student costume design opportunities in departmental shows including student theses, capstone, and independent projects as well as mainstage production opportunities.

    • Supervise, train, provide work direction and problem-solving assistance for temp-on-call staff and student workers.

    • Supervise, organize, and maintain the Colorado College costume shop and the costume collection.

    • Set policies, organize, and oversee costume rentals or loans to college departments and the Colorado Springs theatre community.



    Additional Responsibilities:


    Required Qualifications:
    Graduate MFA Degree in Theatre, emphasis in design, costume history, theatre history, history of fashion, or a minimum of three years of tested work experience in costume design. Expertise in sewing, cutting, draping, drafting, and patterning for theatrical costume design. Extensive knowledge, expertise, and capability in all forms of garment construction, including tailoring, applique, millinery, crafts, beading, decorative applications, fabric modification, and dyeing.
