Founded in 1898, Friends University is situated in an attractive, park-like campus, in the heart of Wichita, Kansas -- a metropolitan area of 500,000 persons with rich opportunities in the arts, education, leisure and shopping. Friends University seeks applicants for a Faculty position as Chair of the Division of Fine Arts, with duties beginning July/August 2010.
The successful applicant will hold a terminal degree in an arts-related discipline (doctorate preferred), with relevant administrative experience and experience with NASM accreditation.
Applicants should be prepared to teach a minimal semester load, in addition to Chair duties.

The primary responsibility of this position is to offer administrative leadership to a unit with 13 full-time faculty, 46 adjunct faculty, 5 staff members and 350 students.
The Division of Fine Arts encompasses five programs -- Music, Visual Art, Communications, Drama and Ballet -- that offer undergraduate degrees in Music (including vocal, piano and instrumental performance, along with a jazz program), Art, Ballet, Music Theater, Music Business, Art Education, Music Education, Communications and English/Drama.
The University is NASM accredited.
The Chair of the Division of Fine Arts, one of six divisions within the undergraduate college of the University, will be the prime advocate of and for the arts, within and beyond the university. She/he will oversee division budgets, course scheduling, facilities management and student recruitment; will provide formal and informal leadership to enhance faculty development; and, will offer guidance for strategic, long-term development of the division’s multiple programs.
Wichita is rich, both in the breadth of its arts communities and in corporate support for the arts and the Chair will be expected to take a leadership role in maintaining our visibility within Wichita, including working closely with University Development and Advancement in fundraising.
Salary is commensurate with experience.
