This position is a Full-time, Tenure-track Position.
The successful candidate will: teach courses in the two-year theory sequence for the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz and Contemporary Music; teach courses within the candidate's area of expertise in Composition or Advanced Analysis; provide leadership with respect to standardization of the theory curriculum and other areas of the core studio requirements; and, assist in curriculum development within the (Jazz and Contemporary Music) School, as well as in development of General Music coursework University-wide.
Expectations of the position also include School and University service and student advising.
Each applicant should have a Ph.D. in a relevant field and a demonstrated excellence in -- and strong commitment to -- Undergraduate teaching, as well as evidence of scholarly activity in Music Theory and promise of distinction in the field.
Preference will be given to candidates with keyboard competence and familiarity with computer-assisted instruction, music notation software and technology in the classroom.

Since its inception in 1986, the Program has been distinguished by its curriculum, based on the respected tradition of artist-as-mentor, focus on small-group performance and Faculty Members with significant links to the history and evolution of jazz, blues, pop and new genres. The ultimate proof of the Program’s success is heard in the musical voices of an established generation of New School Jazz alumni, present at the highest artistic levels and represented in every musical genre.
