Position Description:
These new 9 month Faculty Positions will support the Visual Art and Design Programs at VCUQatar and assist in the creation of a contemporary studio environment.
The VCUQatar curriculum is based on the well-respected VCU course of study, including a global sensibility and a focus on teaching methods, techniques and theories, with a historic and contextual reference to the Gulf Region.
The Technicians will support Printmaking, including Intaglio, Lithography, Screen Printing and Digital Print Media and a Woodshop, including both analog and digital tools.
VCUQatar prides itself on being responsive to the educational, business, cultural and communication needs of Qatar and the Middle East. The students are diverse and are admitted to the University on a competitive basis and into the Painting & Printmaking, Graphic Design, Interior Design and Fashion Design Majors by portfolio and interview. The facilities are state-of-the-art and class sizes are small (typically 12:1 ratio).
The individuals hired for these positions will be responsible for providing specialized instruction and training to students throughout the realization of their coursework. The combination of the skills of the two successful candidates will support the following technical facilities: a combined analog/digital woodshop; a screen printing studio; an intaglio studio; a lithography studio and a digital output studio.
The Technicians will be responsible for the operation, maintenance and general repair of equipment and required supplies.
The Technicians will adhere to all University purchasing policies and will work with VCU Procurement & Payment to spec and order equipment.
These positions will develop Studio health plans and oversee that these rules are taught to, and observed by, the students. The Technicians will also teach or team-teach one course per semester, consistent with his/her area of expertise and will engage in the development and delivery of research, contribute to the function and educational objectives of the Department and provide service to the University, the community in Qatar and the profession.

Qualifications:
The successful candidates will possess comprehensive knowledge of technical processes and applications. Applicants will have M.F.A.s and academic careers distinguished by compelling exhibition records and research accomplishments. Applicants are invited to apply with a broad range of expertise in the Fine Art and Design fields, including those that push the boundaries of the Art and Design Field, particularly those with a demonstrated commitment to professional involvement.
Applicants should be able to support a combination of the following facilities: woodshop; screen printing studio; intaglio studio; and, a color managed wide format digital printing studio, with a laser cutter.
Knowledge of contemporary practices is required.
Experience in University level academic instruction beyond the TA level preferred.
Strong collaborative and communication skills are required, as well as strong experience or potential for working in a culturally diverse work environment.
