The Kean Skylands campus, located in Jefferson Township, New Jersey, is designed to serve as an outdoor living laboratory for field-based scientific study and other classroom and field instruction.

 

We are excited to grow our faculty and invite Lecturer applications for the fall 2025 semester. 10 Month Lecturers are non-tenure track faculty and teach 30 credits for the academic year. Teaching assignments may be assigned at any of Kean’s New Jersey locations – Union, Ocean, Princeton, Skylands or Kean Online and may include day, evening and weekend courses. This position requires local travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.

Lecturers are required to teach, provide student academic support, provide service to the university and community and perform other related faculty responsibilities. Proficiency in a Learning Management System is also required, consistent with University guidelines. 10 Month Lecturers are responsible for performing their teaching and non-teaching responsibilities for the ten-month period of their appointment.

 

College of Liberal Arts, Department of Theatre

 

Theatre Conservatory: Lighting Design and Technology – to teach and participate as a lighting designer and mentor to student designers and technicians for the 4-show production season. The Lecturer will work with undergraduate Theatre Lab students in a hands-on production environment to implement stage designs in state-of-the-art facilities with supportive faculty and staff colleagues.  Performance spaces include a 1000-seat proscenium theatre, two black box theaters with flexible configurations and a recital hall.

 

Teaching assignments could include courses such as Lighting Design, Introduction to Performance Design, Technical Theatre Production, and Technical Theatre Techniques in Lighting Design.  The Lecturer will also teach courses serving the University’s General Education Program and participate in developing curriculum, recruiting, committee work, planning and assessment, academic advising, student design and/or technology mentorship and portfolio development.

 

Accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre, Kean University’s Theatre Conservatory mirrors the university’s mission to provide a core educational foundation based on the liberal arts. The Conservatory offers BA and BFA degree programs, constructed to make and teach theatre that celebrates the human condition and spirit. The performance series provides quality, applied experiences that service the university and the surrounding community. During four years at Kean, students have the opportunity to explore and develop their potential as actors, educators, directors, stage managers, designers, technicians, administrators, and playwrights and to develop the skills to pursue work in professional theatre and graduate school or apply skills to a variety of professions both inside and outside the theatre. The study of theatre at Kean is enhanced by a partnership with Premiere Stages, an AEA company in residence and proximity to New York, allowing for frequent guest artists.

 

Additionally, the Conservatory partners with the Union County Vocational-Technical School’s Academy for the Performing Arts. The partnership provides a year of dual enrollment whereby high school seniors attend Kean University and receive a year of college credits as they complete their high school diploma. This position will oversee the design and technical theatre students from the Academy for the Performing Arts program.

 

Qualifications: Master’s degree in Lighting Design and Technology or a related field and a minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required. MFA and evidence of professional work is preferred. Candidate must be knowledgeable about current methodologies in design and production. Areas of expertise should include two or more of the following: lighting design and technology, sound design, video and projection design and stage or production management. Knowledge of health and safety practices is essential.
