The School of Performing Arts at Virginia Tech seeks a Scene Shop Supervisor who will assist in the construction of scenery for the program’s season of productions and instruct undergraduate and graduate students in theatre technology within the Department of Theatre & Cinema.
A BA or BFA degree in a theatre-related discipline or a BA in another field with equivalent technical theatre experience; a record of significant experience in the field of technical theatre, including: MIG welding; advanced carpentry, rigging, shop supervision, lighting, shop equipment maintenance, and electrical wiring practice. Work at heights on ladders, telescopic lifts, and grids; be able to lift 50 lbs; and have a valid driver’s license.
M.F.A. in scenic technology or related discipline, AutoCAD and Excel use, TIG welding and metal fabrication (machining), experience in automation (hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, control), First Aid/CPR training, material requisition, and previous student supervision.
