The Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) College of Architecture, in partnership with the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), seeks candidates for a joint appointment that will include teaching at IIT and serving as the Academic Coordinator at CTBUH. The position will support Dr. Antony Wood (CEO at CTBUH and a teaching professor at IIT) in the delivery of various tall building / future city-focused design studios and seminar courses. In addition, the successful candidate will help launch an exciting, multi-disciplinary graduate degree program that is a collaboration between IIT and CTBUH. Depending on candidate experience and qualifications, the position is expected to support IIT’s PhD program and future research projects. The ideal candidate should therefore have a strong background in teaching architecture and research in the subjects of tall buildings and future cities; M.Arch required; PhD desirable.

Required Qualifications

  • A terminal degree in the field of architecture, urban design, or a related field of study (M.Arch required; PhD desirable).
  • Demonstrated teaching, professional, and/or research experience in the areas of tall buildings and urbanism.
  • Proven ability and achievements in communicating fundamental architectural concepts through writing, presentation, and illustration.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement detailed course plans in collaboration with IIT and CTBUH, teaching design studio courses and seminars as needed.
  • Evaluate and monitor individual student progress and provide feedback to sustain and ensure a high level of student success. Implement strategies for year-over-year growth in program enrollment.
  • Research, organize, and manage instructional resources and course outlines.
  • Steer academic initiatives in relation to the CTBUH, overseeing academic committees, managing projects, and engaging with academics around the world.
  • Contribute, where appropriate, to CTBUH research projects that leverage academic resources.
  • Establish and maintain effective partnerships with IIT, CTBUH members, and industry stakeholders.
