POSITION
The Stetson University School of Music seeks a collaborative, energetic and vibrant artist/teacher of trumpet at the rank of Assistant Professor who will also serve as coordinator of the brass area. The successful candidate will oversee all aspects of the trumpet program and enhance the School of Music’s high standards of excellence in academics and performance.

QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have a proven record of performance excellence, outstanding musicianship, effective teaching experience at the university level or commensurate professional experience, and demonstrated success at recruiting, retaining, and mentoring trumpet students from diverse backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be a passionate musician with national performance experience, a successful recruitment record, and poised to broaden their performance expertise internationally. We are especially interested in candidates who have a solid commitment to all aspects of diversity in our learning-centered community. A doctoral degree in performance or ABD status is required; however, a master’s degree and significant professional performing, and teaching experience may be acceptable in place of the doctoral degree.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The position involves teaching undergraduate trumpet students (majors and minors), conducting weekly studio classes, and contributing to coursework in another core music area, such as music education, music history, music theory, aural training, and so forth. Additional teaching responsibilities may be assigned according to the candidate’s strengths, including but not limited to brass literature, brass methods, and jazz history. This position requires a consistent and active artistic professional profile in both teaching and performance. Essential responsibilities include collaboration with other wind, brass, and percussion faculty members and band, orchestra, and jazz ensemble directors. Further responsibilities include academic advising, mentoring and assisting students in developing professional goals beyond Stetson, and providing service to the university community.

THE SCHOOL OF MUSIC
Stetson’s School of Music (http://www.stetson.edu/music) is an exclusively undergraduate program known for its excellence, depth, and a long-standing reputation for the quality of its education. THE COMMUNITY

SALARY
Salary is competitive.
