Adjunct Instructor - Media Studies Fall 2019

Job Summary:
The Department of Media Studies at the University of San Francisco (USF) invites applications for a part-time faculty position for the fall semester 2019. The successful candidate will be expected to teach two 4 unit class sections of Media Studies 221: Audio Production. The classes are scheduled to meet 12:45-2:30 pm (section 1) and 2:40-4:25 pm (section 2) on Tuesdays and Thursdays between August 20 and December 4, 2019.

Full Job Description:

This hands-on production and theory course focuses on storytelling with sound and provides students with an understanding of audio production for a range of digital platforms. It surveys a variety of audio formats including non-fiction and fiction storytelling, mixed media, and film. Students develop skills in critique, interviewing, script-writing, editing, and story-pitching; as well as the use of audio equipment, field and studio recording, and digital audio editing and mixing. Audio skills gained in this course are relevant for radio, film, video, journalism, and multimedia productions. Students work on sound for film projects as well as podcasting.

Minimum Qualifications: We are looking for an active media maker/producer with a track record of credits over the last 3-5 years, who is connected to a community (local/national/ international) of media makers in either the fields of podcasting, journalism, or film. Additional requirements include:
  • MA/MFA degree in a related field
  • A strong record of teaching at the university level
  • Experience teaching a diverse student body
  • Experience working in audio programming designed for social justice.
  • Understand the elements of storytelling in audio
  • A knowledge of how to record high quality audio
  • Experience working with Protools and a digital audio console
  • Understanding of and commitment to support the mission of the University of San Francisco
