Introduction (Description of School/College/Dept/Program)The Peck School of the Arts offers twenty undergraduate and graduate degree programs serving over 1,600 student majors, making it one of the largest and most comprehensive arts schools in the region. The Peck School is a vital home for the arts, presenting more than 350 events each year. Spanning both the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's main campus and Milwaukee's East Side, Peck School of the Arts maintains a multitude of creative maker spaces, performance halls, innovative research centers, digital labs and other facilities critical to the needs of 21st century artistic teachings and practice. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee is one of two public doctoral research universities in Wisconsin, offering over 24,000 students a comprehensive liberal arts and professional education through 195 degree programs.

Job Summary
The Creative Technologies (cTech) program in the Department of Art and Design is seeking a tenure-track professor to teach courses and lead the curriculum while coordinating schedules, labs, and budgets, and advising students.

Courses might include: Introduction to Creative Technologies, Moving Images and Sound, Creative Coding, Creative Electronics, Creative Interfaces, 3D Modeling and VR Art, Advanced Creative Technologies, new courses the candidate might design, or related courses in other departmental areas, such as Design and Visual Communications, First Year Program, or Digital Fabrication.

Professors of Art and Design normally teach 3 classes per semester, 6 total per year. Additional administrative responsibilities may include:

  • Leadership and collaboration with other areas on coursework, curricula, and exhibitions
  • Course scheduling, including coordinating with cTech instructors and rooms
  • Regularly review, update, and adjust schedules, calendars, website, and promotional materials in support of C-Tech recruitment and retention
  • Budgeting for labs, including area budget, lab fees, and other grants
  • Advising "Decode," the cTech Student Organization
  • Assisting in organizing and managing ongoing program reviews, GER audits, NASAD accreditation, partnerships, and other similar program assessments
  • Graduate-level supervising, advising and / or teaching
  • Linking students to campus resources (tutoring, financial aid, SAC, Norris Health Center, etc.)
  • And, other duties as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications
    Applicants for this position must have or provide evidence of the following:
  • MFA, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree or experience
  • Previous college teaching experience
  • Knowledge of visual and conceptual-material literacy as related to Creative uses of Technology in Art and Design
  • Expertise producing with Creative Technologies that shows potential towards research and tenure

    Preferred Qualifications
    Highly qualified applicants for this position will also provide evidence of the following:
  • Administrative and budgeting experience
  • Strong writing and organizational skills
  • Record of exhibitions and/or publications
  • Excellent ideation and critical thinking skills
  • Strong teaching skills, with the ability to teach all levels of undergraduate curriculum and graduate courses
  • Versed in theories of affect, interactivity, generativity, performativity, and relationality
