The USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance invites applications for the position of Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure. This is a full-time, tenured faculty appointment with administrative responsibilities.

As the Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in shaping the next chapter of Kaufman’s evolution—advancing the school’s commitment to innovation in dance practice as research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and faculty development.

About the Position

The Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs will serve as a member of Kaufman’s senior leadership team, reporting directly to the Dean. This position will oversee all faculty lines (full- and part-time), guiding initiatives in faculty recruitment, retention, mentoring, and advancement. The Associate Dean will design and implement programs that support professional growth across all stages of a faculty member’s career and contribute to fostering a welcoming, collegial, and high-performing academic community.

In addition to administrative responsibilities, the individual will teach a minimum of one course per semester. The Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs will also supervise and advise the Senior Faculty Affairs Coordinator.

The desired start date is July 1, 2026.

Qualifications and Areas of Expertise

We seek a nationally recognized leader in dance practice as research, with a demonstrated record of scholarly and/or creative excellence commensurate with appointment as an Associate Professor with tenure. We welcome applications from candidates who specialize in any dance form or forms, with an established body of work that demonstrates depth of expertise and achievement in one or more of the following areas: 

  • Performance or choreographic practice

  • Scholarly inquiry, historical, or theoretical research

  • Dance education or pedagogy

  • Dance and digital literacy or technology-integrated practice

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the vision and leadership to help shape Kaufman’s stance on embodied, interdisciplinary research for the 21st century, and will bring a collaborative spirit to advancing faculty excellence and academic innovation.

Kaufman is home to a dynamic faculty of dance practitioners and scholars who are defining the future of dance through performance, choreography, education, and research. Compensation and Additional Information

The budgeted salary range for this position is $120,000 – $125,000 as well as an annual administrative stipend of $20,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer alignment, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
