This is a full-time, tenure-track, 10 month-per-year position. This classroom teaching assignment is in the Theatre Arts Department within the Visual and Performing Arts Division, and includes developing and teaching Technical Theatre courses at the community college level. Those courses may include Stagecraft, Technical Theatre in Production (Running Crew), Lighting Design Fundamentals, Introduction to Theatre, Scene Design I and II, Costume Design, Makeup I and II and Introduction to Design.

Full time members of our teaching faculty maintain 15 instruction and 5 office hours per week and are expected to devote as much time as necessary to perform the professional responsibilities of the position. Participation in professional activities, recruitment, outreach, curriculum/degree development, and campus committees are also required. The assignment may involve teaching evening and weekend classes, and be available for production supervision. This position reports to the Division Chair, Visual and Performing Arts.

Examples of Duties
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Teach course objectives as established in the official course outlines of record.
Participate in a production schedule of five productions per year which may include musicals and student showcases.
Participate in outreach at local high schools and surrounding transfer institutions.
Work with the production manager and technical director to ensure the safe use of the stage and shop equipment in the Theatre Arts Department.
Evaluate and identify knowledge and skill areas to be offered and/or required of students.
Teach critical thinking skills.
Participate in assessment cycles of student and program learning outcomes.
Provide a physical and psychological environment conducive to effective learning.
Counsel, advise, and encourage students.
Assist in the leadership and governance of the Theatre Arts Department, e.g. recruit, administer activities such as production assignments, and participate in campus clubs.
Participate in educational opportunities for related majors such as the GCC Theatre Guild, United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), and Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF.)
Develop degrees and curriculum in connection with Theatre Arts faculty, and manage budgets.
Maintain regular posted office hours.
Actively participate in the development and implementation of curriculum policies, and procedures for the program (e.g. production handbook)
Maintain various records (e.g. attendance, census rosters, grades, etc.)
Respond to requests for information regarding professional obligations (e.g. curriculum, scheduling, textbook orders, and production and design meetings) in a timely manner.
Participate in campus governance and professional activities (e.g. committees, scheduling, leadership positions, outreach, etc.)
Participate in staff development and continuing education activities in order to maintain currency in the teaching field and with the use of emerging technology as it relates to the discipline of Technical Theatre.
Coordinate the design of theatre productions, and serve as designer for a minimum of one production per semester.
Work with the production manager to schedule and supervise students in the shops and performance areas to ensure the safe and timely execution of the designs.
Work to achieve the college's Institutional, Program and Student Learning Outcomes in support of Glendale Community College's Mission Statement.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's in Drama/Theater Arts/Performance OR Bachelor's in Drama/Theater Arts/performance AND
Master's in Comparative Literature, English, Speech, Literature, or Humanities OR the equivalent.

Desirable qualifications:
Master of Fine Arts in Theatre, with a Design emphasis in one or more: Scenic Design, Costume Design, Lighting Design, Sound Design, Projection Design, Scenic Charge Artist, Makeup Design, Technical Direction, Stage Management.
Experience teaching and developing Technical Theatre courses at the community college level.
Experience teaching other lecture courses in Theatre Arts including, but not limited to: Theatre Appreciation, Script Analysis, Introduction to Theatre, Introduction to Design, Stagecraft, and Technical Theatre Practicum at the community college level.
Recent professional activity (within the last five years) as a designer or other related field in Technical Theatre.
Professional affiliations with stage unions or organizations such as United Scenic Artists (U.S.A.), Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF), United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), or Association for Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE.)
Experience using current theatre technology hardware and software.
Demonstrated leadership experience through one or more of the following:

a. Prior college level duties in leadership roles on committees, projects, etc.
b. Previous participation in campus-wide committee work.
c. Experience in developing and implementing new courses as a part of a department curriculum or degree program.

Additional Information
Starting salary is from $61,279 to $84,837 per year depending upon education and experience. Step placement within the appropriate column is determined by Article VIII of the Collective Bargaining agreement. Fringe benefits, which are subject to change pursuant to negotiations under Section 3500 of the California Government Code, are presently provided and include family and domestic partner medical and dental, two-party vision plan, and employee life insurance.

Selection Process
