The Theatre Arts Program, housed within the newly formed School of Literary and Performing Arts at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, seeks a nine-month Assistant Professor of Scenic Design. The successful candidate will join an accomplished and collegial team of theatre faculty and staff dedicated to a student-centered model of production.  As the program expands production capacity and in-person performances, we seek a candidate committed to collaboration and artistic innovation. In this position, the successful candidate will oversee, generate and implement scenic designs for mainstage productions. In addition, candidates will have a secondary focus in one of the following areas: scenic painting, properties design, projection design or lighting design.  The successful candidate will also support production procedures, budgetary considerations, and the maintenance and development of the spatial and material inventory.  Theatre Arts is committed to an ethos of equity, diversity, and inclusion in its classes and productions; ideal candidates will demonstrate cultural competence in their professional and interpersonal engagement with students, staff, faculty and members of the public and contribute to the theatre program’s goal of providing an inclusive learning environment that prepares students to be theater artists and innovators for the 21st century. This position is governed by state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.

Required Qualifications: Master of Fine Arts in Theatrical Design by the time of appointment/hire.

Preferred Qualifications: Evidence of professional design experience in scenic design and demonstrated experience in university teaching.
