The Department of Education at Tufts University is conducting a search for an enthusiastic part-time lecturer in the Art Education Program for fall 2023. We invite applications from individuals who are interested in teaching one art education course for MAT students. Non-MAT students may enroll with permission of the Director. Commitment to culturally responsive, social justice practice is a core value of the program.

COURSE TITLE: Current Issues in Art Education: Contemporary Artmaking

This 2-credit course explores the diverse methods and practices in contemporary artmaking. Students explore and reflect upon their identity, experience, and current studio art practices to develop meaningful and relevant art lessons aimed at supporting a diverse group of K-12 learners. They are encouraged to deconstruct the objectives and processes of traditional lessons to create new processes for meaning making. Studio work, exploration of contemporary artists, current readings, and student research will support students’ understanding of the needs and goals in art education for the 21st century.

LOCATION: The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA

TIME: Wednesday evenings, 6:00-8:30 p.m., fall 2023 beginning Wednesday, September 6.



A master’s degree in art and experience teaching PK-12 art are required.
