Position Overview

The University of Kansas, School of Music seeks to fill a full-time, academic year (nine month), non-tenured choral conductor to teach in a Professor of the Practice capacity to begin on August 18, 2022. The successful candidate will be surrounded by colleagues who share your passion for artistic expression, educating students, creating professional opportunities in the discipline, and are eager to create new ways for engagement in learning. All ranks of Professor of the Practice positions are appointed for up to an initial three-year period with an opportunity for extension/renewal after a comprehensive review.

Job Description

Teaching (75%):
Teach seven courses in Choral Literature, Undergraduate Choral Conducting, Voice, Undergraduate Choral Music Education classes, or related field. Teaching load will not exceed four courses for a one semester period.
The position may include Student Teaching supervision and/or supervising/mentoring graduate teaching assistants.
Oversees and conducts one or more choral ensembles.

Service (25%):
Work cooperatively in support of the School of Music and the University, including service on graduate and faculty committees.
Collaborates with other members of the faculty.
Recruits music majors and students pursuing other major area of study.
Participates actively in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and the University.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in music with demonstrated teaching and/or performance experience considered.
Significant professional performance experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree in music.
Demonstrated ability to successfully teach at the collegiate level.
