Swarthmore College seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure track appointment in Sculpture and Three-Dimensional Design beginning Fall 2021. The faculty member will teach four courses each academic year. The Art and Art History Department emphasizes an integrative approach that fosters students’ development of theoretical perspectives, technical command, and social and environmental responsibility through visual forms. The faculty member will participate in teaching foundation drawing/design courses and will be expected to participate in department critiques of student works executed in a variety of media. They will also have the opportunity to advise students specializing in architectural studies. We seek an object-oriented artist/designer, with a developing or established exhibition and/or commission record. This artist-educator should possess a working knowledge of a wide range of traditional materials, emergent technologies, and fabrication techniques, including those supported by the college’s newly-expanded MakerSpace. They should also demonstrate a critical understanding of contemporary art practices, global art, and the built environment.

Qualifications
Candidates with terminal degrees in sculpture or three-dimensional design fields (including architecture and allied fields) are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a MFA, MArch or similar degree, a compelling classroom presence, a broad range of teaching and research interests appealing to a diverse student population, and a demonstrated interest in interdisciplinary and cross-departmental collaboration. We seek candidates with a developed pedagogy and teaching experience beyond the teaching assistant level.
