Job Summary: Skidmore College – Theater Department Assistant Technical Director
The Skidmore College Theater Department is accepting applicants for an Assistant Technical Director to join a dynamic team of faculty and production staff. The Assistant Technical Director, under the leadership of the Technical Director and in collaboration with the production team, is responsible for maintaining and overseeing the scene shop, technical equipment, load-ins, strikes and is integral in the realization of all scenic, rigging, and lighting elements for departmental productions. The ATD is also responsible for scheduling, leading student crews, and shared oversight for tech rehearsals and performances.
A qualified candidate is a theater professional with a BA/BFA and five or more years experience in the field – educational experience preferred – possessing strong communications skills, ability to multi-task, and meet deadlines. Candidates should be detail-oriented, flexible and able to work as a team player in a collaborative atmosphere. Position requires experience and dedication to maintaining high standards of safety and quality work. Candidate must have extensive experience with scenic construction, metal-working, and rigging. The ideal candidate would also have substantial knowledge of lighting, sound and video practices. Proficiency with VectorWorks and/or AutoCAD required.

Skidmore offers an intensive Bachelor of Science degree in Theater that balances pre-professional training with a strong commitment to liberal arts learning. The department produces four major productions each year as well as a series of student workshops. The position includes benefits and is a ten-month contract from mid-August through mid-June. Minimum Qualifications: Experience in the construction of theatrical sets, including knowledge of the safe use and handling of the materials and tools used in the scene shop, knowledge of the industry safety protocols in the theater, and willingness to work with undergraduate students working in the shop.
Preferred Qualifications: BA/BFA five or more years experience in the field experience in an educational setting.
