The Utah State University Music Department invites applications for a full-time, benefitted, nine-month tenure-track piano faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, anticipated to begin August 2023. Successful candidates will complement our department's current strengths and demonstrate outstanding potential for success in teaching (50%), research/creative endeavors (40%), and service (10%) at Utah State University. We are especially interested in candidates committed to mentoring students and advancing student professional success.

- Teach USU piano major curriculum based on experience and needs (applied piano, collaborative artistry, literature, pedagogy, keyboard skills)
- Recruit excellent pianists and contribute to a shared vision for the piano program at USU
- Raise the profile and visibility of the piano area in the academic and musical community
- Administrative/coordinator duties as assigned
- Optional teaching of music department courses in other areas based on experience and needs
- Doctoral degree in piano or closely related field
- Demonstrated accomplishment and recognition as a pianist
- Evidence of excellence in teaching and mentoring students at the university level
- Commitment/potential to recruit and maintain a successful piano studio
- Ability to contribute to a positive collaborative environment
- Evidence of recruiting excellent piano students
- National visibility as a performer/teacher
- Experience teaching applied piano and lecture classes at the university level
- Experience in administration relevant to a university piano area

The piano area at Utah State University combines music core instruction with piano pedagogy and performance courses, preparing students for careers in performance, teaching, and to pursue further education in graduate piano programs. We offer Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Piano Performance and Pedagogy, a minor in Piano Pedagogy, and serve other degree programs for piano-primary students in Bachelor of the Arts and Music Therapy. Students receive multiple opportunities for collaborative and solo performance during their studies, and work closely with a renowned piano faculty with a wide range of expertise. Students regularly engage in intimate learning opportunities with leading pianists through the Wassermann Piano Series, the CCA Visiting Artist Series, and the Chamber Music Society of Logan.
A unique aspect of our program is the opportunity to receive hands-on teaching training in the USU Youth Conservatory, a preparatory lab program that provides private and group instruction to over 100 pre-college pianists each week. USU became an All-Steinway school in 2012, offering students the opportunity to perform on the highest-quality pianos in the practice rooms and our world-class performance venues. Our current inventory currently includes 11 Steinway D's, 1 concert grand Fazioli, 13 Steinway grand piano practice rooms, a Yamaha Hybrid N2, and a full inventory of upright pianos and digital pianos. Administered by the Caine College of the Arts, the Music Department has 30 full-time and 38 part-time faculty members serving approximately 250 music majors. Located in the Chase Fine Arts Center, departmental facilities include teaching/rehearsal space; faculty offices; the 1,700-seat newly remodeled Daines Concert Hall; and, the award-winning 400-seat Russell/Wanlass Performance Hall dedicated in January of 2006. The Department offers the Bachelor of Music in Performance, the Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy, the Bachelor of Music Education, a Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy, a Bachelor of Arts in Music, a Master of Music in Piano Performance & Pedagogy, a Master of Music in Choral Conducting, a Master of Music in Voice Performance, and a Master of Music in Guitar Performance. Caine College of the Arts
