The Graphic Arts area at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University seeks a part-time lecturer to teach a course titled: Book Arts: Chapter One in the spring semester of 2026 in a lively, growing curriculum of sequential art and book- and web-oriented graphic arts offerings. This is a one-semester appointment. The course in question will be available to all Tufts undergraduates and to SMFA BFA and combined degree students as well as to our master’s degree candidates, and it will meet on Fridays from 8:30 A.M.-1:30 P.M., in our 230 Fenway campus.

 

Qualifications

Candidates must have an MFA in a relevant area and at least 2 years of teaching experience, preferably in book arts and/or book design. Candidates should have experience in Western and Eastern style binding techniques, a solid knowledge of typography and page layout design. We seek to hire an artist/designer with an active studio practice in creating and publishing artist’s books and/or industry experience in binding and designing books, children’s books, or comics/graphic novels. Text-based publication on the subject of book design is also relevant.
