Position Description

 

The Department of  Theatre and Dance at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH) invites applications for a Tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor (Academic Year) with the appointment starting in Fall 2024.

The Position

The ideal candidate will offer expertise in the areas of dance studies and performance studies with a global perspective.  They will also demonstrate teaching and choreographic success at the professional and academic level; excellent communication, organizational and leadership skills; strong commitment to student academic success, ability to act as a mentor, and sensitivity to equity, equality, and diversity issues. 

 

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Applicants must have experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds;
  • MFA or equivalent in Dance or related discipline by the date of appointment;
  • Professional experience as a concert, film, TV, commercial, and/or musical theatre performer and/or choreographer;
  • Demonstrated record of excellence teaching lower and upper division world dance forms in their area of expertise.  These may include include Latin Social, Hip-Hop, Middle Eastern, Bollywood, African Dance, Folklorico, Ballroom, Hula, etc.;
  • Proficient in PC and Mac, Microsoft Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.;

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in teaching undergraduates from diverse age, socioeconomic, cultural, and academic backgrounds, including adoption of appropriate pedagogical strategies for diverse populations;
  • MFA or PhD in Dance or related discipline by the date of appointment;
  • Professional experience serving as the artistic director/choreographer for two or more dance concerts or musical theatre productions and have experience working with scenic, lighting, and sound designers;
  • Demonstrated record of excellence teaching lower and upper division tap, ballet, and/or modern dance;
  • Experience teaching the following:  kinesiology, dance for children, somatics, dance history, musical theatre studies, dance appreciation, and other related courses;

The US Equivalency certification is used to validate foreign studies from an academic credential evaluation agency and is evaluated on foreign studies and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from the United States. The certification must translate the information in English, and confirm that your highest terminal degree is US Equivalent to a US terminal degree (i.e., Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate’s, Doctor’s of Philosophy). Additional Information

The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,450 to $11,994 per month (12 monthly payments per academic year); The anticipated hiring salary is $6,550 to $6,667. This position will be commensurate with experience and current CSUDH faculty salaries in the academic department/discipline. Faculty salaries are subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. Summer research grants, moving expenses, start‐up funds, and a reduced teaching load may be available.

Background Check
